The Fall Reset: Smooth, Glossy, and Ready for Party Season

The Fall Reset: Smooth, Glossy, and Ready for Party Season

Summer is wonderful for everything except your hair. Months of chlorine and salt water, sweaty workouts in the heat, sun exposure, and the frizz that comes with it all take a toll. Add the extra layers of leave-ins, anti-frizz serums, and heat protectants we all rely on just to keep things in reasonable shape, and by September most of our clients tell us the same thing: their hair feels tired, heavy, and overloaded.

This fall, we’re seeing clients come in for a full reset: a detox, a smoothing treatment, a fresh glossy color, and a shape that carries them straight through the holidays. Here’s what we’re recommending at ROIL this season.

Step One: Detox and Smooth

Before anything else, your hair needs a clean slate. Product buildup, mineral deposits from pool and ocean water, and sun damage leave the cuticle rough and dull, which is exactly why summer frizz lingers long after the humidity is gone.

A smoothing or keratin treatment is the single best thing you can do for your hair right now. It seals the cuticle, cuts down on frizz and drying time, and restores the softness and shine that summer stripped away. It also gives your fall color a smooth, healthy canvas, so the result looks richer and lasts longer.

We offer three smoothing treatments at ROIL, each suited to different hair types and goals:

Brazilian Blowout

A professional treatment that coats hair in a liquid keratin-based formula to smooth frizz, add glossy shine, and cut down daily styling time. Prices range from $350-500 (varies by stylist).

Leaf and Flower Molecular Treatment

Instantly reconstructs damaged hair, seals split-ends, and infuses anti-humectant properties to block humidity-derived frizz for up to 10 washes. Prices range from $95.

Step Two: A Glossy New Color

Fall color is all about richness and shine. Healthy, reflective hair is the look of the season, and it’s what makes color look expensive.

Glossy brunette

Deep, polished browns are everywhere this fall: think espresso, rich chocolate, and warm caramel tones with a glass-like finish. Rather than high-contrast highlights, the focus is on dimension and shine. It’s an easy, elegant shift for brunettes who want something that feels new without a dramatic change.

Icy or honey blonde

Blondes have two beautiful directions this season. For a cooler, more luminous look, an icy blonde is crisp and sophisticated. For warmth, a soft honey-golden blonde catches the light beautifully as the days get shorter. Think effortless, glowing, red-carpet blonde in the spirit of Nicole Kidman. We’ll help you choose the tone that flatters your skin and suits your maintenance routine.

Step Three: Extensions, Refreshed for Party Season

With holiday events on the horizon, now is the time to get your extensions in shape. After a summer of heat, sun, and water, extensions can fade or lose their luster, and your natural hair may have changed color or length too.

We’ll assess your extensions, trim or reshape them if needed, and make sure the color blends seamlessly with your natural hair, especially if you’re going for a new fall shade. If you’ve cut your hair shorter, we can adjust your extensions to match or recommend whether to keep them at all. The goal is hair that looks completely natural from the first party invitation to New Year’s Eve.

Step Four: The Cut

The bob is still one of the strongest shapes around, and we love a great one. But this season, we’re especially excited about a slightly longer silhouette: hair that sits just below the collarbone, cut with soft layers, texture, and plenty of wave and movement.

One important detail: textured, wavy hair naturally lifts as it dries. That means we’ll often cut a little longer than where you want it to land, so once it’s dry and styled it sits in the right spot. It’s a flattering, modern length that works worn down and effortless or dressed up for evening.
